ROBERTS 370
Build from STEEL, ALUMINUM, WOOD EPOXY
or FIBERGLASS PLANS & FULL SIZE PATTERNS
Hi Bruce, Above is pictured our wood epoxy Roberts 370 that I built in Western Australia over the past couple of years. Firstly the boat has given us a great deal of pleasure and yes she sails very well. Our first real shake down cruise was a trip accross the gulf in conditions which were forcast to be 25 to 30 knots. we very soon after found that the conditions were not as to be expected. the majority of the trip was in conditions of 35 to 40 knots blowing from the SE on our port stern quarter.
She really powered along with no vices at all. The depth soon shallowed as expected so were surfing 2.5 to 3 mtr waves. when we reached our destination it was just to risky to attempt to anchor in the haven we wanted so went back to sea and spent the night riding it out. Her performance was very impressive. Thank you for a great boat, Graham and Shirley.

Roberts SAFETY SKEG is available on this boat. The Roberts safety skeg is designed to take the best features from the LONG FIN / SKEG combination and add a SAFETY FACTOR. Many of you may be aware that skegs in general are vulnerable to damage so here is our answer to this problem. EMAIL Bruce to more details of this development.

Dear Bruce, I am glad to communicate you in case of the 20-th anniversary of my HELIOS – Robert's 370 launching - June 22, 1993. It was a great adventure to build myself such a boat, and it is still a great pleasure to sail it. In the past 20 years we had lot of traveling at Adriatic sea and Mediterranean, but didn't realized my initial goal – around the world trip, due to the crazy war in Croatia.
Your design is really GREAT, and I would reccomend it to anyone dreaming to sail ! Included are some photos – from the beginning, up to present days. Would be very glad to offer you a sailing trip around Dalmatiam coast. Many thanks & best wishes to you - on the land and at the sea ! Sincerely : Konstantin Kostov, sculptor Sibenska 9j, 23000 Zadar Croatia

We now own your 392B, the one featured on your website (dark blue hull, red waterline, white boot-stripes) and we’re playing around with the idea of an interior refit.
I’ve modified your original plan drawing to that effect and wanted your opinion on any considerations you may have about moving plywood bulkheads...it is my understanding that it virtually makes no difference, being a steel construction,
What interior layout we go with as the hull is inherently structurally integral regardless of furnishings, etc. But you will know better than I! Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Signed Josh Hannigan

Hello Bruce, Just to keep you posted. We are the proud new owners since early September 2015 of the PCF 40 of Claude Charland that you show on your site. The boat is in steel, and was built in Quebec in 1979. The Engine was is a new John Deer 80 HP installed in 2002, with very few hours to date. I owe a big respect to Claude Charland the previous owner who sold it to us for the fantastic restauration work that he did by himself. Here attached are some pictures showing the beautifull quality of work. Pictures 2 and 3 is the way she was 3 years ago. All the other pictures is the way she looked went we bought her. We plan to take her on part of the American Great Loop, starting this June. We are so happy with this beautiful Design that we have searching for years. Sincerely, Flavio Patuelli. ROBERTS 432 FIBERGLASS P LANS AND FULL SIZE FRAME PATTERNSBuild from STEEL or ALUMINUM plans and CUTTING FILES
ABOVE : This Roberts 43 Pilot House version was built several years ago and is still going strong. Also see below.Hi folks, I was looking through your website as I am considering buying another of your designs which was recently built here in Perth , a current model aft cockpit 43. After looking at many other options, I have come to the conclusion that the 43 ,value for money, safety and performance ,you can't beat it. Its interesting to see that the photo you are using for the pilot house version is an original photo of a boat named "Mellisylou", shown in the early publication of "Build for Less", built for a guy in Sydney in the mid 70's.
I owned the boat for 4 years and sold her after re-naming her "Pavanne". She has been sold 3 times since and I saw her yesterday at Fremantle Sailing Club. I'm tempted to buy her back . However and more to the point, she's stylish and the design looks as good to-day as it did when it was drawn probably 30 years ago. Good on you Bruce , you're a legend. Kind Regards, Mike Capelle
FROM - Mature customer - moving from sail to one of our Trawler Yachts. I built a Roberts-43 sailboat from your boat plans in 1981 in Alaska and sailed it approximately 10,000 nm before selling it. Wonderful sea-boat...admired everywhere....C-Flex with balsa cored decks and cabin. I am older now and into cruising in the inside of the boat here in the Pacific Northwest. David K. Parker
We would like to send you pictures from my fiberglass Roberts 432 SY DASI. The white one was from 2000 in Skagerak and the others was 2008 in Minden / Weser & we have sailed now 28,000 Miles. Greetings Ulli Lanzke
Frank Foster writes....I noticed your post to the "Justice" web site. Thought I would mention that I was the builder of the "Justice". We met once at the Newport Boat Show while she was under construction. She is mostly Roberts 432 with an "R-45" layout. Regards Frank
Sailed by Kjell and Berit from their home in Sweden, this boat showed up in the Burnett River to clear for Australia after spending the summer in Australian waters. Their boat plans are to return home via the Suez Canal, alter the accommodation area below, fit some new sails and take off again. Another happy sailing couple fulfilling their dreams
This Roberts 43 sailed around the world from the UK. I met the owner at a wonderful "Boat Jumble" in the UK.
LATER : Hi Bruce, I was browsing through your website looking to see whether you designed the 43ft "Fisher/trawler" motor sailer we are about to have a look at when this jumped out at me! Thought you would like an update on Suleika, the yacht in the photo. She has just completed her second successful circumnavigation, 7 or 8 years I think, with her "new" owners, the folk who bought her from us. We are now based in NZ and for several months Suleika was based in an adjacent marina berth, quite a coincidence.
I recall our encounter at the Beaulieu Boat Jumble, Hampshire England in 1995, hope you are doing well, best wishes Sally Gille

Above we can see three of the available accommodation layouts for this fine design. This new but already proven sailboat features an unbroken sheer-line & the latest in deck salon arrangements. By careful design we have managed to reduce the height of the sheer-line thus reducing windage and improving performance.
This is one great performance cruising boat that incorporates all the design information we have gathered during 38 years of designing & building thousands of offshore cruising sailboats

Last year we sailed the boat from Hampshire UK to Scotland where she remained for the winter. Unfortunately we are still isolating from Corona Virus, but hoping to get back within the next few weeks. Hopefully then return to Keyhaven for the coming winter and a few minor adjustments.
She is very comfortable to live on, and warm and dry in the winter, even with some ice around in the sea one morning. We had some bumpy seas in the English Channel last year and she is a good sea boat. A 100 hp diesel Nanni pushes her along nicely at 8-9 knots Overall, very pleased and thank you very much for the design. The kit went together extremely well. Regards, Julian Aldridge.

SAILING TRAWLER Build from STEEL or ALUMINUM plans and CUTTING FILES
Hi Bruce and Hal, I just got back from helping Lee & Sheila Keely get their new boat to Boston on their way home to the Chesapeake. We had a pretty rough trip across the Bay of Fundy and the Gulf of Maine, with south west winds at 25 knots and 8 – 12 foot seas.
The whole trip took 62 hours at roughly 7-7.5 knots. The boat performed very well in the rough weather and at no point did we feel in any danger, even when we were taking a foot of water over the bow! There were times when the whole foredeck was awash! So, I think we can safely say thank you for designing ANOTHER safe ocean worthy boat! Thank God For Pilothouses!
Feel free to share these photos on the net, the owners are very happy and proud of their boat! Talk to you soon, Brian. YACHTSMITHS in Nova Scotia Canada

Build from STEEL or ALUMINUM plans and CUTTING FILES
Hello Bruce Just thought you might be interested to know we were paying customers on a 44' Bruce Roberts design boat in Iceland this year. Our skipper Ashley Woods had built the boat, 'Bold Explorer' himself. Bold Explorer felt extremely seakindly and safe, and was simple but fun to sail. She has a large deck saloon which allows you to see the horizon from inside the boat, a great boon on the colder days.
We felt confident sailing her around the wild and beautiful North West coast
of Iceland up to the Drangajokull glacier. I think Ash is intending to
go back to Iceland this year, and also to Norway, perhaps to the Lofoten
Islands. (We have no financial arrangement with Ashley, we were just
happy with the trip). Yours Lesley Whitfield and Paul Brittain
In the case of STEEL OR ALUMINUM PLANS & CUTTING FILES, all plate parts belonging to the hull, deck and superstructure that are accurately cut to size are included. The parts are marked with the appropriate part number and engraved matching marking lines to assist in the assembly and location of the part in its position. Cutting method is Plasma / Oxygen, ensuring highest accuracy and smooth edges. Plate parts are cut from Lloyds approved A Grade Shipbuilding quality STEEL that has been coated with factory applied Sigma weld MC welding primer. We use and recommend steel plate that has the official designation ISO standard 10474 or EN 10204 with 3.1.B certificate.

New York 46 Build from STEEL, ALUMINUM
or FIBERGLASS PLANS & FULL SIZE PATTERNS
![]() ABOVE AND BELOW: New York 46 owned by Marcin Sanetra
Hi Bruce,
I am friends with Ray
Crake of Western Australia who built a Roberts New York 46’ which he named ‘Komeova’.
I must say I am very impressed with the outcome and have been out on Komeóva
in some pretty strong conditions. The boat felt extremely strong and sure-footed in a following 5-6 meter swell on the journey from Dunsborough to Rottnest Island then Rottnest Island to Fremantle the following day. Kind regards, PAUL DURKIN – BSc (UWA)
NEW YORK 46 B
"Komeova" HERE IS WHAT RAY HAD
TO SAY:
Hi Bruce, First good sail was 120 nm ocean. We had only
been out for 2 hrs sailing previously, though we had been motor testing /
system testing for a few hrs as well prior to the trip. Less than 14
hrs from point to point!! Happy as I am! Had varying winds (5 to 17 knots) from 40
degrees apparent to about 200 degrees on the port side 90% of the time.
Seas with a 3 metre swell.
Full main (quite a roachy loose footed main 10
oz sail - dropped mast from 65' to just over 60' but extended boom by
about 2.5' full batten with roller cars with lazy jacks) and 135% furling genoa for first 7 hours with wind about 12 - 14 knots at between 40 to 80
degrees apparent. averaged 7 knots +. No weather helm, not tender at all
and accelerated well and the motion was beautiful!!! Still riding
slightly high in water but I will add a keel heel of about 1250 kg this
spring as I believe any impact will only be positive!
First light wind dropped to 5 - 10 knots and
went aft of the beam. Set the Gennaker (the Plum!) which sets off a
retractable 316 heavy walled 316 ss deck fixed bow pole that extends
Gennaker tack about 3' forward of the genoa tack.
Also has a snuffer
arrangement. yacht went really well with this sail. Held it for 5 odd hrs
- averaged 7 knots in 12 knots of wind and maxed out at 8.3 knots when the
wind hit 20 - 17 knots for a time sailing with varying apparent wind.
Swell was beam to so no surfing and the yacht felt it could go faster but
we just took it easy and were not pushing her! Held this sail easily when
wind went to 50 apparent.
Also have a furling staysail- 10 oz 105% set
on the inner forestay. Very flat sail and will be used as a heavy weather
sail as well as for close hauled work. Have not done any close
hauled sailing as we are having a late start to winter and winds have been
very light since I have gotten the yacht home last week.
Will keep you informed and will send you some
photos . Have only some on boat photos and am awaiting some more to be
emailed. Komeova is great and I could not be happier!! Great design! Thanks for your assistance!!! Kind regards, Ray
Crake
