NEW YORK 46 Fiberglass, Steel or Aluminum
There are many photos and drawings on
this page, please read the text while they load:
There is a choice of keel types combined with various draft
options and alternate sail boat plans. This design can be customized to suit your requirements.
Note that in the B version there are two double cabins in the aft section which combined
with the extensive accommodation makes this boat ideal for charter operations.
Already several New York 46's are already sailing and many more are being built in various parts of the world, some in
radius chine steel and others in fiberglass.

NEW YORK 46 A
The NY 46 A can
be rigged with sloop cutter or ketch sail boat plans.
Right now we are preparing for building the new yacht.
Your's Cat 11.5 seems to be very unique. Seems to be perfect yacht for
sailing as a watertaxi n
orth Norway or on
Svalbard- for research groups we have.
I see the power version is ready- I think from that we
can start.
From future perspective & safety reazon I'd like to ask
you about the sailing version also. Do you have ready for building plans for
that or is it better to wait a bit longer? Also there is a question should I
buy 2 study plans right now (sailing & motor) of one?
I'll be happy to receive more data about aluminium
version of this cat.
I'n attachment I'm sending some of the pictures of our
NY46 from wintertime Svalbard (don't worry-cat we need in summertime
periods) Possibly the most iced pictures we have (don't worry normally we
don't sail like that);-

NEW YORK 46 AB
Hi Bruce,
I am friends with Ray
Crake of Western Australia who built a Roberts New York 46’ which he named ‘Komeova’.
I must say I am very impressed with the outcome and have been out on Komeóva
in some pretty strong conditions.
The boat felt extremely strong and sure-footed in a following 5-6 meter
swell on the journey from Dunsborough to Rottnest Island then Rottnest
Island to Fremantle the following day. Kind regards,
PAUL DURKIN – BSc (UWA)
"Komeova"
The beautiful
example of the NY 46 shown here was built by Ray Crake;
Ray
combined the NY 46 A and B versions to create this beautiful example in radius chine
steel.
HERE IS WHAT RAY HAD
TO SAY:
Hi Bruce, First good sail was 120 nm ocean. We had only
been out for 2 hrs sailing previously, though we had been motor testing /
system testing for a few hrs as well prior to the trip. Less than 14
hrs from point to point!! Happy as I am!
Had varying winds (5 to 17 knots) from 40
degrees apparent to about 200 degrees on the port side 90% of the time.
Seas with a 3 metre swell.
Full main (quite a roachy loose footed main 10
oz sail - dropped mast from 65' to just over 60' but extended boom by
about 2.5' full batten with roller cars with lazy jacks) and 135% furling genoa for first 7 hours with wind about 12 - 14 knots at between 40 to 80
degrees apparent. averaged 7 knots +. No weather helm, not tender at all
and accelerated well and the motion was beautiful!!! Still riding
slightly high in water but I will add a keel heel of about 1250 kg this
spring as I believe any impact will only be positive!
First light wind dropped to 5 - 10 knots and
went aft of the beam. Set the Gennaker (the Plum!) which sets off a
retractable 316 heavy walled 316 ss deck fixed bow pole that extends
Gennaker tack about 3' forward of the genoa tack.
Also has a snuffer
arrangement. yacht went really well with this sail. Held it for 5 odd hrs
- averaged 7 knots in 12 knots of wind and maxed out at 8.3 knots when the
wind hit 20 - 17 knots for a time sailing with varying apparent wind.
Swell was beam to so no surfing and the yacht felt it could go faster but
we just took it easy and were not pushing her! Held this sail easily when
wind went to 50 apparent.
Also have a furling staysail- 10 oz 105% set
on the inner forestay. Very flat sail and will be used as a heavy weather
sail as well as for close hauled work. Have not done any close
hauled sailing as we are having a late start to winter and winds have been
very light since I have gotten the yacht home last week.
Will keep you informed and will send you some
photos . Have only some on boat photos and am awaiting some more to be
emailed. Komeova is great and I could not be happier!! Great design!
Thanks for your assistance!!! Kind regards, Ray
Crake
NEW YORK 46 B
Hello Bruce & Andrew,
My name is Donald McAllister and I
built the NY46, pictures of which grace your web site. Built under the name
‘Jagungal’, it was sold in 2005 to Mr John Matthews (NZ) who changed the
name (unfortunately) to Luna C.
Anyway, just wanted to say that
building and sailing Jagungal was the best thing I ever did. Fabulous
design. Fast and stable, sea-inndly and reliable. Loved it. Miss it;
still. Thanks for glory days. Donald

SAFETY SKEG IS
AVAILABLE ON THIS BOAT. The Roberts safety skeg is designed to take the best features
from the LONG FIN / SKEG combination and add a SAFETY FACTOR. Many of
you may be aware that skegs in general are vulnerable to damage so here is
our answer to this problem.

this development.
