Fiberglass plans and mold patterns Power CYBER SPORT YACHT Version. Diesel power with Regular shaft drive Diesel / Electric Hybrid We categorize our preferred electric option as Hybrid, and in the electric world, they call it a parallel system - where in an electric motor is fitted between the propeller shaft and a diesel engine. Either one (or both) can turn the shaft. We feel the benefits are: 1.) Silent operation when desired; for instance when leaving an anchorage, or a river transit 2.) It uses the diesel's greater power for higher speed as opposed to fitting a large motor and draining batteries VERY quickly. 3.) The electric propulsion motor can serve as a large generator and charge the vessel's batteries. 4.) We have done several studies, and the range of a "all electric" vessel fitted with a generator to charge the propulsion batteries is dependant on the size of the generators' fuel tanks..! The configuration we are advocating allows for the diesel fuel to directly power the vessel as opposed to going through a generator to batteries to power the vessel. 5.) Lastly, should the batteries or electrical system fail, the vessel still has a diesel engine to power her to port.
